The Phoenix Project (2013) - Short (Trailer)

Synopsis

After conversations with his friend and brilliant young researcher, Eugene, wealthy businessman Arthur senses that change could be close at hand. He calls for the help of his other rich investor friends, who gather to hear both Arthur and Eugene pitch them on funding breakthrough medical research into curing and even reversing human aging. Having lost his father to aging related illnesses, Arthur worries that his mother, Agatha, who is in a senior living community, may not be far behind. Years later, with investment funds secured and a talented team of researchers, led by Eugene, hard at work on a cure, Arthur assures his mother that a cure is close after successful clinical trials have shown better-than-expected results.

Not everyone is excited by the research, however. Vincent, a shadowy, covert figure with impressive connections sees The Phoenix Project as a threat to the environmental well-being of the planet and the order of nature itself. Without sufficient scientific knowledge himself, Vincent recruits a like-minded young protege, Lee, who he is able to place in the lab to watch over the project. After the clinical trials are successful and Eugene is pushing for FDA approval, Arthur and his best friend, Jack, are excited about the progress and the gravity of what they have accomplished with Eugene’s research. Just when Arthur thinks his goal is in sight, though, Vincent orders Lee to sabotage the lab and destroy all of their research data. Arthur, devastated, comes to terms with his own misfortune when another lab in Switzerland announces a breakthrough in anti-aging research. Vincent scrambles to send Lee to the Swiss lab while Arthur scrambles a security team to protect it, certain that the march of human progress cannot be stopped.
